Civil Grand Jury Information
California has 58 separate grand juries, one in each county. Each grand jury consists of 19 citizens who serve for 1 year. The functions of a grand jury are:
- Investigating local government ("watchdog" function).
- Issuing criminal indictments to require defendants to go to trial on felony changes, and
- Investigating allegations of willful misconduct or corruption in public officials.
