TELEPHONIC APPEARANCE PROCEDURES

Humboldt Superior Court’s procedures for scheduling telephonic appearances for non-criminal matters are as follows:

Courtrooms 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8:

Telephonic appearances must be approved by the judge as soon as possible after you receive notice from the court. You cannot schedule a CourtCall appearance until you have received approval from the Court.

Courtrooms 2 and 4:

Civil non-evidentiary hearings such as case management conferences, law and motion calendar, and status hearings, telephonic appearances are pre-approved. All other hearings must be approved by the judge as soon as possible after you receive notice of a scheduled hearing.

Family support hearings

Telephonic hearings for family support matters (through the Humboldt County Department of Child Support Services [DCSS]) should be directed to a Family Support Clerk by calling 269-1231 or 269-1232 between 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., or by faxing a request to 445-7632 attention Family Support. Please include case name, number, and court date and time.

Process for requesting telephonic appearance in Family Law matters non DCSS:

Please fax a letter to Humboldt Superior Court at (707) 445-7041 that includes the following information: Judge’s name, court case number and name, date/time of scheduled hearing, and reason for telephonic appearance. Your fax will be routed to the judge and you will be contacted by a judicial secretary regarding the judge’s decision, and if approved, please contact CourtCall to schedule your telephonic appearance. Please do not assume that if you received pre-approval for a prior court hearing that all future court dates are pre-approved also. Witnesses may not appear via CourtCall.

Waiver Request

If you intend to request a waiver of Court Call costs, please be prepared to provide Court Call with a copy of your valid Order on Court Fee Waiver.
